Freya & Kasper

Our previous family consisted of Mishka, Anastasia and Timo. All were close in age and sadly crossed The Rainbow Bridge in close succession. We were devastated but cheered each other along by declaring it was our new chapter in our lives. No vets bills or insurance.Instead exotic holidays, worldwide travel, freedom, staying out late, coming home from restaurants with a clean handbag instead of greasy one (caused by bits of steak brought home for “the children”) Trouble was we didn’t really want to go anywhere and the iPad kept getting left open on the Rescue page! Our holiday destination shrank down to the UK, and then in ever decreasing circles to Nottinghamshire and Mrs Brenda Walker.

On September 9 2019 we adopted Kasper and Freya. Freya was three days away from her first birthday and a puppy farm victim. She was timid and afraid, had never been in a house and didn’t trust humans. She wouldn’t let us touch her. House training was a nightmare. Kasper had lived in a house and knew where  the cheese will be kept. Amongst  his many talents he was an accomplished thief and could get the crinkly plastic of a piece of stilton in complete silence. He was also a fine gymnast frequently jumping on top of the washer and leaping off it onto any passing shoulder. Outside his favourite sport is to jump on the garden table, slide along the top and land in the herb garden aiming for the sage bush. When the table was removed he just rolled on the mint and permanently smelled like a minted lamb chop.We don’t have a herb garden now. Multi talented, he also shown great expertise in handbag design. Any handbag, shoulder or cross bag he skilfully re-designed as a clutch bag by chewing off the straps. Whilst Kasper was busy in the garden, Freya turned a paw to plumbing. She removed  the waste pipe from the kitchen sink and carried it away.Fuelled by this success she remove the overflow pipe from the toilet and decided that the plug in the shower wasn’t necessary.

By Christmas we were drawing straws to see who would phone Brenda for a refund. We both chickened out!  We persevered and turn the corner. It took time and patience but we couldn’t wish for a better family. Kasper has thrown himself into his studies as an Underkeeper to the Gamekeeper. We live behind the shoot and Kasper  keeps his eyes on the livestock including the Fallow deer and alerts us to poachers. He is paid in antlers. Freya is grown into the sweetest, most obedient, loving little girl possible. She just loves to cuddle her interest centre around the home, especially the kitchen where she helps to trim the meat and dispose of the carrot peel. She understands so many words, so intelligent…….and she’s packed in the plumbing! we are proud of them both and love them to bits, so pleased we chickened out of that phone call to Brenda!
